Meet Cathy Detrick … a hand woven artist lives in Maui. As I walked towards the hotel lobby this morning, I saw her handcraft stand. We chatted about her work. It’s amazing to find out that she travels extensively in Asia and has profound understanding and passion in ancient fiber art. You can see samples of her handcrafts from her website www.catherinedetrick.com. One of them incorporated a silk dragon fabric from the Qing dynasty with her hand woven cloth into a kimono style robe. She obtained silk fabric from an… read more →

I am in Maui attending a 3 days company event. We are staying at the Four Seasons Hotel. It’s a fabulous property, probably the best in Maui. Here is a shot from my room last night after I checked in.
I was so tired after a long trip and slept in till 9:30 AM this morning. Here is the first scene I saw. There will be more postings to follow in the next few days.

While on a short break with my family last week, we went to Cijin Island on the southwest side of Kaohsiung city. It was mid day and the sunlight was pretty harsh … not a good shooting condition. I used Leica Noctilux wide open at f0.95 with a 0.9 ND filter. The outcome surprised me. The Noctilux is indeed an amazing lens. … read more →
This chair is patiently holding a parking space for its owner under the dimmed street light. From its condition, you can tell it’s been doing this simple duty for years.
I sometimes complains about the high level of stress comes with my job. My wife always comforted me by saying that “at least you enjoy what you’re doing. Stress comes with every job whether you are a CEO or a janitor”
How many people in the world are doing a boring job every day? We… read more →
I am in Taiwan with my family on a short break. However, I was swamped with work since I got here and didn’t spend much time with them. I felt really guilty about it. This morning I finally had a bit of breathing room and went to play with my daughter and her cousins in the back side of the house. They were playing on my brother-in-law’s car. I had many really good shots. But this is what I can show you today … since I believe… read more →
The British have left their footprints everywhere in Hong Kong. The public transportation system is one of them. Other than left road driving, first time visitors to Hong Kong are often amazed by the number of double decker buses and trams around the city.
This image was captured in front of a KMB (Kowloon Motor Bus Co) souvenir shop. If you are a miniature vehicle collector, you can find hundreds types of double decker bus and tram models in shops… read more →
Star Ferry has been bringing passengers between Hong Kong and Kowloon for over 120 years. Despite 3 cross harbor tunnels and well established subway and other types of public transportation systems, Star Ferry is still being used by many for daily commute. It’s the most cost effective way to get across the harbor. For merely HK$3, you can across to the other side of the harbor in just 10 minutes. It’s also a popular tourist attraction. The magnificent skylines of… read more →
A few weeks ago, I took a photo walk in Tokyo with my colleague Anny who is also a photography enthusiast. There are many small restaurants and bars in the back alley near Daimon, the area where our hotel was located. Many people came here after a long day of work. It was quite but very much a representation of daily life in Tokyo.
Nowadays, everyone has cell phones. In Tokyo, telephone booth can be seen everywhere and are… read more →
I went to Sydney on business trip last week. The weather was so good. However, my busy schedule prevented me from taking any photo. Besides, sleeping 3-4 hours a night. What sucks is that I could only shoot from my hotel and office windows. This is the view from my hotel room which faces downtown Sydney near Geroge’s St.
The view from the office is breathtaking. The windows looks down the Pacific Hwy in North Sydney. On the background, it’s… read more →
