A Short Trip To New Delhi

HWC201211023 It’s been 4 years since my last trip to India.  During the two days visit, I pretty much spent all of the time between the office and the hotel.  It’s a pity that I didn’t get any chance to do any real shooting.  These scenes were taken in the car, at a restaurant, and in the airport.  It does reflect a certain part of the incredible India. Traffic jam during rush hours is a common scene in Delhi.  You got to have the patience.… read more →

A Filipino Girl

HWC201210283 My family went to Manila last weekend.  On Sunday morning, I went out for a walk in with my daughter.  As we stepped out from the nicely gated community, we went into a side street.  I didn’t expect it led us into a poor settlements with houses built by metal sheets and cardboards.  It was a shocking scene hard to be described by words.  Since I was holding my daughter,  I didn’t have any free hand to take any photo. Worrying about my our safety,… read more →

Back in Time at Incheon Airport

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA At Incheon International Airport, traditional Korean cultural parade is taking place twice a day from July till the end of this year.  On Friday evening, I was flying back from Incheon to Hong Kong after a week’s travel.  Right after I passed through the custom, the parade just started.  I was at the right place the right time.  Most importantly, I had the camera with me.   The performers were dressed in traditional Korean royal family costumes.  While it took place in a… read more →

Saturday Random Shooting

HWC2012051923 I went to Wanchai this afternoon with my best friend Jim since middle school.  We are both crazy about photography.  It’s the first time for me to see the famous Yellow House, Blue House, and Orange House in the Wanchai area (near Queen’s Road East).  We first went through the Tai Yuen Street Open Market, then to the Blue House, and finally Pak Tai Temple.  I was very happy with incant smoke photos towards the end. The Tai Yeun Street… read more →

Maui – Hawaiian Dance

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Hula is a dance form accompanied by chant (oli) or song (mele). It was developed in the Hawaiian Islands by the Polynesians who originally settled there.  This dancer performed a dramatic fire dance at the dinner that I attended before I left Maui.  The dancer was moving violently.  Thanks to OM-D’s fast focus.  I was able to capture these photos with decent clarity.  Camera settings are ISO800, 1/125 sec, f1.8.… read more →

Maui – Handweaving Artist

L1005645 Meet Cathy Detrick … a hand woven artist lives in Maui.  As I walked towards the hotel lobby this morning, I saw her handcraft stand.  We chatted about her work.  It’s amazing to find out that she travels extensively in Asia and has profound understanding and passion in ancient fiber art.  You can see samples of her handcrafts from her website www.catherinedetrick.com.  One of them incorporated a silk dragon fabric from the Qing dynasty with her hand woven cloth into a kimono style robe.  She obtained silk fabric from an… read more →

HWC2012021520 We took a long walk to the “muslim street” in the evening.  It’s was a colorful and freezing night. This guy was trying to convince the policeman not to give him a ticket. This is the East gate of Xian city wall. The “muslim street” is about 500 meter long outside the East Gate.  It filled with restaurants and shops.  A place that is full of life and an ideal destination for night shootings. We had dinner at a local… read more →

Xian Impression 印象西安 (Part 1: The Wall 城牆)

HWC201202153 The city wall of Xian was built over 3,000 years ago.  It’s probably the only ancient city wall remained in the world today.  If you ever go to visit Xian, make sure you pay a visit.  The wall is about 13 km long with 4 major gates. It was freezing cold on the wall.  I was fortunate to be accompanied by my colleagues.  Among them, Anny and Cindy have always been my official models. More photos from Xian in other… read more →
