700 Meters Walk

HWC201212076 The distance between my hotel front door to the monorail station that connects to Haneda Int’l Airport is about 700 meters.  I typically rush through it in under 8 minutes.  On Friday morning, it took me 20 minutes since I slowed down for some photo opportunities.  My 700 meters walk started from the hotel lobby. I have taken so many photos of Zojoji Temple and still have had enough of it.  Behind the temple is the landmark Tokyo Tower. I… read more →

Leave Showers

I had no breathing room last week while working in Tokyo last week.  The only moment that gave me a peaceful mind was my 10 minutes walk to the office in the morning.  The deep sense of late autumn and the cold temperature delivered a sense of sadness while the warm sun and the fresh air reminded me of hope. The falling leaves was like rain showers.  It reminded me that winter is coming.  Life is a continuous cycle.… read more →

My Favorite Drinks in Japan

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Whenever I am traveling, it’s hard to keep a balanced diet as a result of work hour especially after late evening business dinners. Every time I am in Japan, I would get two kinds of healthy drinks – Black vinegar and black Oolong tea.  Black vinegar is made from white rice and known for lowering blood pressure and preventing disease.  It’s a good source of citric acid, an important element for cellular energy production.  Black Oolong tea is proven for lowering cholesterol… read more →

Nihonbashi 日本桥

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA On one of of my recent flights, I saw a Japanese murder mystery movie The Wing of the Kirin.  I was not only touched by the story but also intrigued by the history of Nihonbashi Bridge built in the 1607 during the Edo Period.  The bridge is the starting place of road networks in Japan, installed with “the road origin marker of Japan”. The current stone double-arch bridges were built in 1911, and designated as the first cultural important property of… read more →

Haneda Airport, Edo Market Place 羽田機場體驗江戶時代小鎮

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Since late 2010, Tokyo International Airport (Haneda) offers a convenient alternative for those who travel to Tokyo.  It’s only 20 – 30 minutes away from the city center.  When Narita was the only option, travelers have to spend 1.5 – 2 hours.  Nowadays I always schedule my Tokyo trip through Haneda.  My personal record was 40 minutes from the time I land to the moment I checked into the hotel.  I did without any rush … 10 minutes at immigration… read more →

On the Road 差旅的日子 (Part 1)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I spent about 120 nights on the road a year.  It’s a lot of miles, airports, and hotel nights.  In the past 6 weeks, I have been on the road every week.  Luckily I still like what I am doing and enjoy to be on the road.  My typical week starts on by jumping on an airplane on Monday morning.  After landing in the destination city, I breez through immigration and custom, then get on the most efficient transportation (train in Tokyo, taxi in most other cities) to the… read more →

Hamamatsucho Evening 浜松町夜影

HWC2012022954 A few weeks ago, I took a photo walk in Tokyo with my colleague Anny who is also a photography enthusiast.   There are many small restaurants and bars in the back alley near Daimon, the area where our hotel was located.  Many people came here after a long day of work.  It was quite but very much a representation of daily life in Tokyo. Nowadays, everyone has cell phones.  In Tokyo, telephone booth can be seen everywhere and are… read more →

Girl’s Day (Hinamatsuri) in Japan 日本女兒節

HWC2012022933 Every year on March 3, Japanese celebrate Girls Day by praying for their young daughters’ health and future happiness.   Girls’ Day is also called the Doll Festival because people arrange special dolls on a staircase-like shelf a few weeks before March 3.  I was in Tokyo last week.  A set of dolls were displayed in the hotel lobby. According to the tradition, on the day of the festival, a party is held for the girls where sake and diamond-shaped rice cakes… read more →
